Think Tank Tackles Healthcare Funding Squeeze
Challenge: Southern Cross Healthcare Group wanted to kick start a conversation – all the way to Government benches – about New Zealand’s inability to sustain healthcare costs rising at twice the rate of inflation. Reports showed that healthcare spending habits were set to seriously impact the Government’s ability to keep its health budget in check.
Activity: Porter Novelli convened a Think Tank hosted by Southern Cross Healthcare Group for experts across the health sector to discuss healthcare affordability long-term. Ex-pat Kiwi, Sir Malcolm Grant, Chair of the National Health Service in the UK, was the key note speaker – a huge draw card for the invited attendees as well as media.
Results: This was the first time that Government, public, and private industry sectors had come together to address the fundamentals behind the rising cost of healthcare services. Politicians, public and private healthcare leaders, as well as healthcare sector professionals and academics contributed to a very successful event – with Southern Cross Healthcare Group successfully positioned as the facilitator of this necessary discussion.
